From the Unloved Leagues: Meet Eren Derdiyok

It’s easy to overlook the other team when Barcelona are running roughshod over them, but that exasperated-looking, gorgeous boy in the foreground is Eren Derdiyok. He’s 20 years old, a regular for both FC Basel and Switzerland, and started his international career with a friendly goal against England. Oh and, as a mere lad of 19, was the youngest player at the Euros last summer.

He also bears an uncanny resemblance to his international teammate Gokhan Inler — he’ll get his own post soon, don’t worry — which can only be a good thing for the oglers. (That’s Eren on the left, though it’s hard to tell.)

Lots and lots of evidence under the cut.

Despite his youth, Eren’s not exactly shy and retiring. (That smirk is far more appealing than it should be.)

Ah, there we go — proper, little boy innocence. Much better.

(It’s ok, you can look — I’m pretty sure he was 18 in this one.)

It’s hard to stay modest when you’re getting your team into the CL. With a gaping head wound, too!

Or, you know, scoring for the full national team as an infant.

(Sadly, even when he’s cocky, he’s almost always dressed. Pity, that.)

His teammates appreciate him. Very much.

As do all Swiss children. (It’s a national requirement.)

And he’s just as insanely adorable off the pitch as he is smug on it.

For real.

Seriously. I rest my case.

  I love that in what appears to be his team photo he is pulling that face.

  Ok, he is cute, but sort of like my friend’s kid brother cute or Tiger-Beat-cute… you know, a bit like Pato.

  I think he needs a couple years to be seriously hot.

  I think I have a weakness for the young-and-cocky, Johonna, you’re lucky to be able to resist them. (But Pato, seriously? Ew! Bite your tongue, woman!)
